The team (minus Andy B, who is currently on leg 1 of the Clipper round the world race) met today to visit Rannoch Adventure’s site in Burnham on sea to see what we could glean from the owner, Charlie.
It turned out to be a fantastic and informative visit; not only were we able to see where the boats are built and fitted out, we were able to clamber aboard one on the river for an authentic feel of what it will be like aboard an R45. The overarching feeling was one of reassurance – the boats are well made, bigger than expected and pleasingly simple in design, something we are all thankful for! Rather more wobbly in the water than expected, we will need to find our sea legs quickly for the crossing itself!
Charlie kindly spent a lot of time talking us through an Atlantic crossing campaign, from budgets, to training and equipment- the benefit of his experience was invaluable and we all left buoyed with optimism and enthusiasm for the challenge.
Teamwork, a sense of humour (in adversity) and proper planning are the hallmarks of a successful trip, today we took another step forward in our journey, thank you to Charlie and Rannoch Adventure!
