New Year's Eve
As 2018 comes to an end I remind myself that I am 1 of 87 people in the world rowing an Ocean rowing boat from 2018 into 2019. As crazy as it sounds I feel extremely privileged to be able to live this experience from one year and into another. I have appreciated the time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to collect thoughts, remember what’s important and be able to push myself physically and mentally for an extended period of time.
This said watch out Antigua!!! We have pent up partying from the Christmas period and New year to hit you with when we arrive. With the talk of the new year looming I’ve just asked the boys what their New Years resolutions will be. Andy William’s is to do more travelling with his wife Sue, Jonny Bayley’s is to buy a house and Nick Wright’s is to do more blue jobs. You heard it here first Katie and Sue and it’s in writing. Mine is to spend quality time with close friends their families and most importantly my wonderful family.
I can only express high levels of enjoyment and laughs from this crazy experience so far. Nicks stories have me bent over double each watch and I’m occasionally lucky enough to get snippets of stories from either Andy or Jonny which are equally as funny. I’ve said this before in a blog but the power of communication is amazing. To survive the raw elements with 3 other guys in a boat no larger than a Volvo countryman propelled by the human body brings out pieces of you that you forgot were there.
We were graced with a whale at the surface just 15m from the boat today reminding us that Mother Nature is truly awesome. Yesterday we all went for another swim to clean the hull and cool down. Nick decided it was time to break his go pro out on some sort of head mounted system. As he swum around under the boat I questioned who he was going to subject this video too whilst Jonny and I scrapped the hull naked. He replied confidently ‘Nieve and Florence’ his daughters, followed up with don’t worry you can’t see anything anyway your both too small, I’m not sure he has considered it on large screen in HD, it may not be as appropriate as he first thought.
Wishing you all the happiest of New Years. Party sensibly as I would if I was anywhere near an alcohol serving establishment.
Thank you for all of your support.
